Sustainable Schools - Establishing a North West Network

What can we learn from each other?

Over the next six months, Lydia Meryll and Raichael Lock will be working with and supporting North West schools who are interested in the Sustainable Schools strategy. We will be linking existing initiatives to the agenda and contacting those providers who are already supporting sustainability projects within the schools.

Has your school been working with children and young people to:

  • Learn about climate change?
  • Create links with their local communities?
  • Set up global education projects, fair trade or school links?
  • Develop local travel plans and consult parents on safe routes to school?
  • Explore the links to the Healthy Schools action plan?
  • Develop the Eco Schools programme and extended school activities?
  • Monitor savings on water and electricity?

Sustainable schools are those where all these plans are tied together through a whole-school approach. There are eight doorways. Check out the national web site: http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/sustainableschools/
The network we aim to establish will link up active schools and other organisations through focused workshops and training events. We will work with you to produce a brochure of resources and ideas for schools.
