Development Education Project
DEP works with teachers, trainee teachers, youth workers and other educators to promote diversity, global education and sustainable development.
We are based at the Manchester Metropolitan University Institute of Education in Didsbury, and our geographical coverage is across Greater Manchester. We are one of seven development education centres across the north west. In addition to our bookshop and funded projects, we offer training courses designed to meet teachers' and schools' own needs.
DEP's vision
DEP promotes global learning for a just and sustainable world.
DEP's aims
DEP aims to encourage and develop educational approaches and methods which will:
- enable people to recognise in their own lives the links between North and South*, and to acknowledge how much we can learn from one another
- increase understanding of the economic, social, cultural, political, environmental and spiritual forces that shape the relationship between North and South*, and which effect us all
- enable people to achieve a more just and sustainable world in their schools and communities, as well as more widely, in which power and resources are more fairly shared by all.
* Global North and South, as opposed to within Great Britain
