At any one time we have two or three major curriculum development projects with a local and national impact, in collaboration with our teachers and partners. |
What We Do
We work with teachers and other educationalists, NGOs and Universities to raise awareness of global issues. We run a resource centre and produce new teaching materials as well as offer training events through our funded project work. Major recent and current curriculum projects include: Global Express: a rapid response information series for schools on world events in the news (fitting into Literacy, Citizenship, Geography and History) Learning for Sustainable Cities: a training programme and local/ global learning pack on sustainable urban development and active citizenship (Citizenship, PHSE, Geography) Developing Citizenship: developing whole school approaches to citizenship Initial Teacher Training and Education: integrating the global dimension into teacher training, with Manchester Metropolitan University.
In adddition DEP carries out consultancy work on curriculum development and resource production with a variety of organisations that use development education expertise (for example WWF, the Commonwealth Institute, Greater Manchester LEAs and PLAN UK). All this results in the production of highly respected teaching materials for national and global dissemination to teachers, individuals, other development education organisations, charities, voluntary organisations and more.
