Example activity on Community

This activity looks at deeepening our sense of interdependence and dependence: acknowledging we are part of one creation.

Activity for KS1 or KS2

For each person in the class you are working with you will need paper and pen and a photocopy of a Peters Projection world map.

Ask the group to think about their daily routines. Ask them to list what they do, what they use, what they eat, what they drink, what they wear from the moment they get up to the moment they go to bed.

Ask them to think about where all the different things come from and write the countries of origin next to the items.

Ask them to try and live the day without the rest of the world, in other words they must try to only use, eat, drink and wear things that were made, grown or produced in their own country.

As a group, discuss how the day went.

Each person labels the map with the items they use in their daily routine and draws a line from each item to the country of origin. The maps from the whole group are displayed.
