Highlights
- Two Fair Trade days promoting products and resources outside the MMU
Didsbury canteen, as well as DEP’s special Fair Trade edition of
Global Express (canteen now stocks fair trade tea and coffee)
- Development of new BA Primary Units on Global Citizenship, Children’s’
World, Thinking Skills and a local study by MMU and DEP staff
- Development of a new CPD module (at degree and masters level) on ‘Diversity
and identity: education for intercultural understanding’ (subject
to board approval) by MMU and DEP staff and Steering Group members. This
is aimed at being a multi-professional course.
- A new DEP Global Dimension resource list (KS1&2 and KS3&4)
circulated to all key staff (and available along with other DEP resource
lists on the DEP website)
- The establishment of three global dimension notice boards on the MMU
Didsbury campus
- Global Dimension to Citizenship lecture (plus follow up subject group
work) as part of Professional Studies to all (600) PGCE Secondary trainees
- Initial contact with other ITET global dimension projects (Bangor;
Glosdec / Gloucs Uni./ Mumbai; Development and Intercultural Education
project, Dublin)
- Project input and promotion at the ITE Geography tutors conference
at MMU
- Meetings with interested staff to discuss induction sessions for all
trainees (or all students) to address issues of equality, diversity and
global citizenship. Pilot sessions to start in September.
- Input into History, Geography and RE PGCE Secondary trainees and mentors
days
- Focus group meetings of interested trainees
- Development of a research strategy: Evaluation day held at Nottingham
University – DEP, Hums Centre and Steering Group reps., plus Glosdec/Gloucs

- Commented on final draft of DEA’s ‘Global perspectives
in ITET’; distributed copies of ‘Global perspectives in HE’
- DEP's 'Tune into the News' booklet on critical use of the media updated
and made available to MMU tutors and trainees
- Meeting with Dean and Head of IoE about closer ties between DEP and
MMU
- Attending 'Visions of the Future: ITET and the Global Dimension conference
at UMIST 7-9 May. DEP and MMU representatives invited to join Working
Party to produce a booklet on how the global dimension links to and enhances
the TTA standards
- Special events and activities during Refugee Week (14-18 June), including
using drama to teach controversial issues. Drama and role play on displaced
people (MMU tutor), plus forum theatre sessions on citizenship and anti-racism
(Global Link Lancaster).
