Inventors' Club

Have you ever uttered the words 'I wish I'd thought of that!'?

We have and it was what inspired DEP with the idea to set up the Young Inventors' Clubs.  We gathered lots of young people from around Manchester and got together for a fun and interactive workshop during half term, October 2009.

The sessions were run as part of Manchester Science Festival to introduce the idea of innovation and invention to young people.  With mad scientists and science busking kicking off the workshops, we used a range of recycled materials, glitter, sticky tape, pipe cleaners and cardboard boxes... this was a Blue Peter style project with a global conscience.  Underlying the fun and creativity was the introduction of an important idea of supplying water to people who live in drought-prone areas.

Following the success of this we are planning on running more Inventors' Club workshops in the new year... so watch this space.  Maybe you could join us and get involved next time instead of quietly remarking 'I wish I'd thought of that!'.

"(My grandson) thoroughly enjoyed it!  It was an exciting event with a real creative buzz between the youngsters.

Lots of fun and lots of learning!"
