Peer Education Project
Rationale
The rationale of the Peer Education Project is to enhance the capacity of schools' communities to address ESD, the Global Dimension and
social inclusion issues, focusing on:
- developing the values, attitudes and confidence of children around equity
and equality issues;
- enhancing the understanding and interaction between children, schools
and their environment.
The project links local knowledge and experience of sustainable development, the global
dimension and social inclusion issues with those of the South, and through
this the wider challenges and prospects for development. It also:
- looks at sustainable development and global dimension issues through local-global
activity;
- will allow pupils to make clear the links between North and South.
The interaction and inter-connectedness of this, with social inclusion
(local issues of poverty affecting housing, education, health) will show:
- how effects of poverty do not only have a local effect but a global one;
- will develop knowledge and understanding of equity, equality and interdependence.
Through this, the local, national and global actions being taken to look
after the environment and challenge poverty will be highlighted.
It will also:
- ensure that global issues are incorporated in Curriculum provision and
guidance across the North West and the UK;
- provide good quality materials and resources to facilitate teaching in
schools;
- encourage whole school or community based activities with a development
focus.
