Peer Education Project
Teacher Comments
The teachers, who were involved in the Development Education Project,
gave the project workers their views and comments about the project.
These are a few views from teachers we have had over the lifetime of the project.
“[Name of pupils] were very well prepared and took command of my Y5 class all morning
with no problems whatsoever. They had an excellent knowledge of the resources used and
all three of them took the class on a rota basis. They were pleasant and polite and my
Y5 class had nothing but the highest of respect for them.”
“It [the project] gave us a marvellous opportunity for our own CPD, improving our own
teaching methods, to watch how you all did it. There were some fantastic cooperative
ideas that perhaps we don’t always consider first in a classroom of 30 and I think that
was very valuable for the school as well”
“The students were well prepared to lead full days in the primary school this year. This
was a really powerful learning experience for the students and I was immensely proud to
have been a part of this. Thank you so much for your efforts. Please continue! “
“Peer Education training this whole year has been excellent. Activities are well planned
and appropriate to the students’ ability and age. Topsy and Abbie ensure that they treat
the children with the same respect that they expect and have built strong relationships
with the children and staff team here.”
“Some of the pupils have gone on to run things like a fair trade week, and global action week,
taking part and some of them are actually leading that themselves”
“One of the best workshops I have ever attended with students. His enthusiasm was infectious and
managed the impossible - getting year 9 students dancing and singing with their teachers. There
was a real sense of joy and fun in the atmosphere. His talk about Ghana was stimulating, interesting
and left us wanting to find out more.”
“For me it has opened my eyes to a lot of new teaching techniques, and seeing the children as individual”
“It makes me reflect on my own practise in the classroom”
“Benefit for the children gives them an opportunity to develop their confidence and ability to present
and the way they are interacting with each other, which obviously will have a direct impact within lessons
and their form group, and overall their happiness when they come to lessons and how they feel about learning,
that it is exciting and fun and they got the opportunities to, and in that way it kind of makes them proud
of their school”
“It has improved their self esteem which makes them happier”
