What is the Learning for Sustainable Cities project?

The Learning for Sustainable Cities project began with the idea of helping young people to explore the concept of sustainable cities and communities and to identify opportunities for them to be involved in positive change.

A group of educators from countries of the North and South has been identifying case studies of good practice and working with local schools to trial materials.

Curitiba teachers' meetingThe project has been co-ordinated from Manchester (UK), with partners in Banjul (The Gambia), Brescia (Italy), Curitiba (Brazil), Halifax (Canada) and Mumbai (India).

The project ran in its initial phase from January 2001 to December 2003.

The project has produced a common core of teaching resources and case studies, which are being augmented to be more country specific in each case.

It has also developed a training programme for teachers to be able to effectively use the methodology and materials
