How can humankind respond to the enormous challenges we are currently facing? How can educators help develop an understanding of 'one world'; and our roles as global citizens?

Our biggest challenge in this new century is to take an idea that sounds abstract; sustainable development; and turn it into reality for all the world's people.

Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations

Who is the project aimed at?

The project has been aimed primarily at teachers of pupils aged 8-13, though the methodology and materials have proved to be adaptable to younger or older age groups, and outside formal school contexts.

In England the most likely audience is teachers of Geography and Citizenship, but Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is one of the areas of ‘Learning across the Curriculum’. The materials are relevant to a variety of subject areas from Humanities to Science and Modern Foreign Languages. The teaching and learning styles and skills are relevant across the curriculum, enhancing areas such as Citizenship and Personal, Social & Health Education.
